One important aspect of my life is that I have celiac disease, which means that I cannot digest wheat gluten. It is toxic to my small intestine and may lead to lymphoma.
I've been unfaithful to my celiac diet, sneaking the wrong foods, and now I'm having trouble. A celiac must not eat anything with gluten for the rest of their lives.
I'm publicly expressing that I will never cheat on my gluten free diet again. I will carefully read ingredients and  remember how terrible the gluten makes me feel. I'm not self-diagnosed, I have been a celiac since childhood and have had endoscopies which prove my condition.
One bright spot: eating gluten free has become popular and there are many more gluten free products in most grocery stores. My friends, family and coworkers know I can't eat wheat. The key point here is please help encourage me to be strict on the diet, so I can feel better soon!

I was placed on call tonight, which involves waiting for the phone to ring, or not ring. Usually by 2am you know they're not calling you to work.

Yes, we have our own fireworks for tonight! First Zack has a troop acivity, then when he's home, about 9pm we'll be lighting up the neighborhood! Happy 4th everyone, have fun!

My husband and I watched Promettheus in 3D today. It was very well done! One of my all-time favorites is Alien. There were many references to Alien in the movie. It's one you don't want to miss. It was nice to have a mini date day.

Our family field trip today was to see San Xavier Mission. It was so beautiful! The mission is about 300 years old. It was very hot, so we went prepared with hats and water. The kids enjoyed it in spite of the heat.

It was so peaceful in the mission, and the walls are covered with Saints and Angels. On the picture above this sentence is the Virgin Mary, who appeared near the Mission long ago. We bought prayer candles and set them under her statue. The Mission is a functioning Church that has mass and also a Christmas celebration. We intend to go back at Christmas time.
This is a statue of Saint Frances. People will place small milanos, pictures, even jewelry on his blanket.
The mission is a parish for the Tahano Oodham people. Seeing the lovely mission was breathtaking.

I took the kids to see Brave today. It's a cute movie, and the detail in the animation is incredible!
Every morning the kids have swimming lessons, and we are spending time at the library too. I even took them both grocery shopping the other day and they were so good and helpful. I'm having a good summer.

Just another work night, busy but everyone helped each other. Ken took the kids to Wickenberg this morning. They will tour a cave. I've been promised lots of pictures. I will share them soon.

Boy Scout award ceremony. Ken, Zack and I are on the left up front

Men in Black 3

Took the kids to see  MIB3. We really enjoyed it. The movie has it all=aliens, guns, drama, comedy. And it's kid friendly. I recommend it to anyone who likes Men in Black.

Guess who volunteered to handle popcorn sales for the Boy Scout troop!  The troop sells at booths near stores, online and in person. From what I understand, it may not be easy but help will be available and it seems like I would learn from this activity. It's nice to be involved in my son's troop.
I worked an extra shift last night- very unusual to get extra shifts in the summer here. Then I stayed up to take the kids to swimming lessons, napped, got up and cooked dinner. Now I'm getting ready to take Zack to Boy Scouts--busy, busy. Speaking of last night, it was a good shift-steady but not overwhelming. Summer brings a different kind of patient- the snowbirds are gone so our patient population is younger and there's a trend of cellulitis  and bowel obstructions right now.

Zack had a great time on his canoe trip! He came home a little more tanned and with big smile on his face. I'm so glad that we've had him join the Boy Scouts, it's going to help him become independent and responsible. Plus, it's fun!

A pair of sweet little earrings I made last night. Sterling silver and Czech glass.

Swim Lessons

The kids are starting their first swimming lessons tomorrow morning, looking forward to it. I'm trying to keep them as busy as possible this summer which means swimming, library time, scouting and day trips. It's a shame that they have not learned yet, Zack is 11 already and never had lessons! Anyway, it will be fun.

Today's outing- took kids to the Apache Junction Public Library. We are now signed up for the summer reading program. I checked out only one book, as my reading stack is already pretty full. It's a biography of Kurt Vonnegut: And So it Goes, Kurt Vonnegut, A Life. Did I ever mention that he is one of my most favorite authors? http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/9460.Charles_J_Shields

Took the kids to Prospector Park this morning. Here you have to play in the sun early in the day! Kids had fun, found some others to play with and shot water guns. Then stopped off for shaved ice and home again.

Me and my sisters in North Carolina.
My favorite Halloween picture- Zack as a Ghost Buster, Lyla as Batgirl, and my husband Ken as himself!
My lovely son Zack. He's 11 years old, loves scouting, legos and star wars.

Peralta Elementary had their Awards Ceremony today, and my daughter Lyla got Student of the Year in her first grade class. I'm proud of my girl! I can't believe it's already the last week of school- it went fast.

This is a complete new blog, from scratch-starting over. I plan to share pictures, posts, and also jewelry making tips. I regret deleting my entire old blog, but what is done can't be undone. So welcome to my new place.
